When The Chips Are Down
He steels his eyes, he combs his hair
he's dressed to kill , in his leisure wear

well some dream of fortune some dream of fame ,
but in that downstairs club with a spanish name
the way those girls dance its grates
for once he feels hard without his mates
so he kicks open the mens room door
and pushes his way across the crowded dance floor

He see's her there , She turns away
she didn't care , for him anyway

He knows girls like her only go so far
unless your an office boy with a shiny car
All he's got is his giro money
and a small town notoriety
then he see's him dancing in his place
not a single scar on his pretty boy face

he's dressed to kill out on the town
he comes alive when the chips are down

By the takeaway van on a saturday night
theres glistening steel under yellow street lights
theres someone lieing on the ground
a woman screams and the sirens sounds
and billy says they cry for you and me
and another small town casualty

And someones crying in the rain
But Billy laughs - it aint his pain

He carved himself a reputation
for taking care of any situation
but the judge didnt understand jealousy
'your honour she belonged to me'
when he got sent down he had no regrets
cos his face was on the cover of a small town gazette

he's dressed to kill out on the town
he comes alive when the chips are down
